Attended the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. After completing his medical degree in 2007, he went on to residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. His interest in hematologic malignances led him to Hematology/Oncology fellowship at the University of Washington and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. He then joined the faculty of the Division of Hematology and Clinical Research Division of these respective institutions in 2014.
